What is Sciatica

Do you know What Sciatica is? This condition is very painful

SciaticaThe Sciatic nerve is one of the largest nerves in the human body. It begins at the 4th and 5th lumbar vertebra and the first few segments of the sacrum. It runs vertically downward into the back of the thigh, behind the knee and then goes into the calf muscles and the feet.

Sciatica is a symptom of spinal disorder and creates pain that travels down through the nerve and may be related to MANY areas of pain that you are experiencing.

Many times a bulging or ruptured disc can irritate the sciatic nerve and cause pain, tingling, or numbness through the extensions of the nerve throughout the lower back and lower body.

A visit to your HealthSource Physician will help determine a proper treatment plan to reduce or obliterate the pain that you are experiencing. From a simple adjustment to spinal decompression, we have helped thousands of patients around the country escape the pain from Sciatica.

What is a Bulging Disc

What is a Bulging Disc

Many of you have heard of “Slipped Discs”. In reality, the discs in your vertebrae cannot slip. This term is misused and actually refers to two different disc injuries: Bulging Discs and Herniated Discs. A bulging disc is one that is injured, but not broken open. Left untreated, it can turn into a herniated or ruptured disc. Herniated discs are the most common condition where you hear the stories of back surgery and all the impact it can have on an active lifestyle.

Disc Degeneration and Disc Injuries can cause a wide-variety of pain throughout the body, and often gets worse with movements such as bending over, reaching up, or twisting. The discs separate your vertebrae by acting as soft, compressible, “shock” absorbers within the spine, and can flare up in a number of widespread ways.

An affected disc in the neck area may result in neck or arm pain, while an affected disc in the lower back may result in pain in the back or down your leg. A bulging disc can irritate the sciatic nerve and cause pain, tingling, or numbness through the extensions of the nerve throughout the lower back and lower body. Some patients compare the pain to that of a burning sensation.

Contact your HealthSource Physician today to have a vertebrae screening and look at potential treatments and therapies that can relieve the pain you are experiencing, and prevent future damage from occurring that could even lead to surgery. Many times, a simple adjustment can potentially unlock your stiffened spine and joints, freeing you from pain.

In more severe cases, a synergistic, non-surgical spinal decompression therapy effectively relieves the pain, and is available at HealthSource. We look forward to helping you return to an active, healthy lifestyle!

Do you suffer from Migraines

migrainesIt’s time to make those Migraines disappear!

Migraines are no ordinary headaches, and are often described as a vice-like squeezing within the head with throbbing, pounding, or pulsating pain. People affected by migraines might also experience sensitivity to noise and sound, fatigue, irritability, end even blurry vision and nausea.

The truth is, your pain may not even be in your neck. Your HealthSource physician specializes in locating the true source of your pain through chiropractic adjustments, therapies, and other treatments.

“I fell down the stairs which gave me migraines. I was put on all types of meds and at one point took 9 pills a day and was still waking up almost daily with headaches. I missed a lot of social and work activities. It really started affecting my mood and outlook of life for me. My migraines would at times put me in the ER with an IV and morphine for the pain. I believe the weekly chiropractic care along with the strength training and the electrotherapy has been life altering for me.” — Rhonda Mitchell, HealthSource Patient

  •  300 million cells die in your body every minute.
  • The average number of nerve cells (neurons) in your brain is 100 billion.

  • On average, the chance of contracting an infection during a hospital stay is one in 15.
  • You shed and regrow your outer skin cells approximately every 27 days.
  • Your body gives off enough heat in 30 minutes to bring half a gallon of water to a boil.
  • A tooth is the only part of your body that can’t repair itself.
  • If joined end to end, the blood vessels in your body would stretch about 60,000 miles or 2 1/2 times around the Earth.

The Anatomy of a Spinal Bone

Spinal BoneThe main focus in our office is your Spinal Bone, because of its relationship with your nervous system. The Spinal Bone is made up of 26 bones, called vertebrae, which protect and support important body parts and help you maintain your posture.

A single Spinal Bone is made up of these parts:

1. Vertebral body: The large part of the vertebra that
supports the weight of your body.
2. Intervertebral disk: Located between vertebral
bodies,it acts as a cushion to keep bones from rubbing
against one another.
3. Facet joint: Keeps the spine stable, connecting the
individual vertebra.
4. Spinous and transverse processes: Jut out from
the sides of the vertebral body and attach to muscles.
5. Pedicle: Small area of bone that extends from each
side of the vertebral body. It lies between the back of
the vertebral body and the transverse process.
6. Lamina: The part of the vertebra that connects the
spinous process and the transverse process.
Damage or interference to any part of the vertebra can
result in pain and a compromised nervous system. The
spinal checkup we perform can identify abnormalities we
can address to restore proper function

One Leg Shorter than the other

one leg is shorter than the otherChiropractors perform diagnostic examinations to understand what’s
going on with your body’s biomechanics. Determining that one leg is
shorter than the other or that one side of your body weighs more helps the
doctor to understand what’s happening in your neck, spine, or hips. Our
doctors can use that information to deliver the exact adjustment your body
needs. Spinal problems can cause uneven weight distribution that affects
your balance and posture. Some chiropractors use bilateral weight scales
(two scales side-by-side) to determine whether a patient’s weight is even
on both sides. If a problem in your neck is causing your head to shift to the
right, your right side will be heavier.
A leg length check when a patient is lying face down on the adjusting
table can determine if one leg is shorter than the other. Maybe a hip is out
of alignment. Or maybe nerve interference in your lower back is causing
the appearance of a short (contracted) leg. Adjusting the hip or lower back moves bones back into proper position, relieves nerve pressure, and corrects the shorter leg, so that both legs are even.
Look in the mirror. Does your body look straight or are you tilted to one side? Is one pants leg longer than the other? A simple adjustment may be all you need to correct that. Why not call and make an appointment? We deliver precise adjustments and peace of mind.
